Looking for the best Internet service for you in the Newburg area? This article lays out the options. The best option will depend on your needs and exact location.
Brightspeed
Brightspeed is our local telephone company, the successor to CenturyLink, Sprint, and United Telephone of Pennsylvania. In our area they offer Internet service using Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) service that is slow for modern Internet use. At best they may offer 15Mbps down and 1Mbps up. Actual performance and reliability is often less and is based on the length of cable between your house and the company’s equipment. Recently there have been reported issues with long lead times for service calls. In the future they may offer Fiber Internet service, which will have far better performance.
Zito Media
Zito Media is our local cable company, the successor to Kuhn Communications of Walnut Bottom. Zito has acquired small cable operators across the country and at times has relied on out-of-country telephone support. The Better Business Bureau has poor ratings for the company.
In our area they currently offer Internet service over the former cable television network. They have service packages that advertise download speeds of between 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps, with far lower upload speeds. Actual performance tends to be reasonable, but may vary based on line and network conditions and some have bad experiences.
Zito is in the process of building out a Fiber-to-the-home service in our area. They have been awarded government grants to provide broadband access to unserved and underserved areas.
Upward Broadband
Upward Broadband is a fixed wireless Internet provider that has recently started offering service in our area. The company is based in Lancaster. In our area, they offer service from a tower above the Blue Mountain Tunnel.
The fixed wireless connection requires the installation of a directional antenna at your house that has unobstructed line-of-sight to the provider’s tower location.
Verizon Wireless
Verizon Wireless is a cellular telephone provider. In some areas, include parts of our area, they provide a home broadband Internet service using their cellular network. Performance will be variable depending on how close you are to their tower, obstructions, and network congestion.
T-Mobile
T-Mobile is a cellular telephone provider. In some areas, including parts of our area, they provide a home broadband Internet service using their cellular network. Performance will be variable depending on how close you are to their tower, obstructions, and network congestion.
Starlink
SpaceX provides Internet service from a low earth orbit satellite constellation called Starlink. If you have an unobstructed view of the sky from your house they can provide a reliable Internet connection with good performance.
